All of the pets on Chicken Smoothie are created from the same line arts (with a very few exceptions). This helps to not only make things easier on the artists, who don't have to create the drawing from scratch each time, but also is the reason why items can fit multiple pets of the same species, and also helps created a unified "style" for the site. Artists are still allowed to make line-edits (alterations to the default outline) but the base is usually still clearly recognizable after the changes.

In a large part, most of the line arts have not been changed since their original releases. The site's creator, Tess, created many of the line arts, but over time other artists have also contributed their own line arts and species to the site!

However, not all the line arts are used on the site anymore. Some species have been retired from circulation and aren't released anymore. Generally this is because the artist who created that species was the only one who used the line art, and the lines were retired out of respect when the artist left the team. In other cases the species was simply replaced by a revamped line art made by a new artist. As for Nick pets - these special lines were never intended to be regular releases but rather just an April Fool's jokes (that would see a few releases over the years due to their popularity).

Just because a linear has seemingly been retired doesn't mean that the lines are gone forever - there's always a chance that something will reappear! It's not unknown for these pets to make reappearance for very special occasions.

To learn about the other line arts used on the site, take a look at the articles Frequently Used Line Arts, Infrequently Used Line Arts, and Unique Line Arts.

First Archived Release

Betta fish were one of the aquatic species released during Malk's time as an artist. They were considered to be an active species during the years of 2009 and 2010, only receiving two full litters (one in each year) before their retirement. Since then betta fish have appeared on rare occasion in special litters. From their first debut, both stages of the line art had been created.

Created by Malk.

Common Betta Variations

There were two common appearances that betta fish could have, adding variety to their fins.

First Archived Release

Over the course of 2009 and 2010, many koi fish were released, both in the monthly adoptables and as part of events and holidays. These pets were retired when the artist who created them, Malk, stepped down from their position. The first time this species was seen, only the adult stage was released. However, in the following litters, two more stages were added, making the species growable. Even after its retirement, the koi has reappeared on special occasions.

Adult Malk Cat

First Archived Release

During their time as an artist in the years 2009 and 2010, Malk released their own version of popular CS species most months. One species they often created was cats! Many of Malk's species, including dogs and cats, grew from the crate stage, making it impossible to tell the species from its newborn stage. Even after their retirement, Malk Cats have made an occasional reappearance on special occasions.

Created by Malk.

Alternative Line Art

Malk Cats were given a revamp at some point during their tenure, but not every pet/stage was redone. Some of the original lines are still used on certain pets.

First Archived Released

Malk released their own dog line art during 2009 and 2010, while they were an artist for Chicken Smoothie. These dogs would frequently be released along side the other canines made by the same artist. The mid-stages for all the canines looks rather similar, further emphasizing the similarities in the real-world species. The crate used as the newborn stage for this species is shared across many of Malk's species, so it was not immediately apparent which species would grow from the adoptions. All stages were revealed with the first litter, and additional releases were released for special occasions.

These dragons were always meant to be elusive, but after Malk's retirement in 2010 their releases became even more infrequent. You can check the article about Special Release Pets to learn more. The first litter of Malk Dragons revealed all the stages, and it is the species with the most stages ever on the site (outside of certain Unique Line Arts).

First Archived Release

Malk released a fox line art along side their rendition of the dog line art. These pets were released mainly in 2009 and 2010, until Malk retired, although they still make an appearance for special occasions. The fox mid-stage shared many similarities with Malk's other canine species, which debuted in the same litter with the complete roster of stages. The newborn crate lines are shared with many of Malk's other species, making it impossible to tell which species had been made right upon release.

First Archived Release

Malk created several horse pets on their own line art during their time as an artist on Chicken Smoothie during 2009 and 2010. The line art was retired when they stepped down from their position, although special occasions may still call for the release of more of this species. All the stages to this equine species were revealed in the first release, with the first and second stages being rather similar.

First Archived Release

In 2009 and 2010, the retired artist Malk created many line arts for the site, including their own version of a wolf. This species debuted early on, and Malk's later canine species growths (the dog and fox) bore strong resemblance to the wolf's mid-stage. The crate line art is shared between many of Malk's species, making it impossible to distinguish newborns. Furthermore, Malk often mixed the release of their canine species, having dogs, wolves, and foxes released in the same litter.

Nicken

First Archived Release

Nick chickens, often called "nickens" by the community, were first introduced in 2017, following the same style as other Nick pets. Although the nickens were released many years later than the other Nick Pets, they were enjoyed during some of the holidays in 2017. However, like most of the Nick Pets, nickens are seldom released now. The egg stage is shared with the nick horse, making the rare occasion of their release always an exciting surprise.

First Archived Release

These funny pets were first made in 2009 as an April Fool's joke, but their popularity brought about a second litter in 2010. However, this was the last litter of Nick Dogs, and they haven't made a reappearance since then, outside of special occasions. The original April Fool's joke included two different line arts for the Nick Dogs which have completely separate growth stages and came from different litters, and yet are considered the same species.

Tess Horse

First Archived Released

In 2008 Tess created this line art for the horses on the site. However, by 2009 it was discontinued for the most part, the site switching over to line arts made by other artists. They have made new appearances on very special occasions. This line art did not have any addition stages and therefore it could not grow.
