Second Generation pets, or "2nd gens" as they are almost always called, are the babies of certain adoptables on the site. Most months, an artist will pick a pair of existing pets, and create a series of potential offspring. They will usually have certain characteristics from both of their parents, and their markings will greatly resemble that of their parents. Since Chicken Smoothie [https://www.chickensmoothie.com/help/pets#howbreed does not] (or ever plan to) allow players to "breed" their own pets, this feature serves as a way to celebrate and explore unique combinations of designs.

This guide is meant to help any new members to CS to better understand what Second Generation pets are, how they grow, where to get them, and who the parents of each litter are.
These litters are released with great frequency, and they can contain pets of any species. They're released to the main monthly adoptables page, under [https://www.chickensmoothie.com/adoptables/second-generation%20pets their own tab].

That's a very good question, and one we get a lot. To easily see what pet is a "2nd-gen" and which one is not, take a look at these two pets below.

You can easily see "2nd gen" written in red under "www.chickensmoothie.com" on the first pet :)

When you first adopt a 2nd-gen pet, they will have different coloured blankets, but the same coloured blanket will usually grow up into the same adult, though this isn't always the case.

==Can I breed my own 2nd-gens?==
Fortunately 2nd Gen pets are tagged visibly with a stamp that appropriately says "2nd Gen"  on it, usually around the  site's mark, so it is  easy to identify which pets are descendants. This is a trait visible on all stages, even the growing ones.

Every now and again, the artists or guest artists on the site will decide that they want certain pets to have some babies. They will then color the CS line-art and release them on the first of some months in this section of the adoptables page. New 2nd gens are placed beside a picture of the parents like the image below. Those two pets are the parents of a specific litter.

==I really like a certain litter, but I can't adopt it. Why not?==
Just like all the other litters on Chicken Smoothie, the 2nd-gens will be removed at the end of the month to make way for new adopts. You can still trade with other players who have spares in the trade section of the forums.

Since Chicken Smoothie does not (or ever plan to) allow players to "breed" their own pets, this feature serves as a way to celebrate and explore unique combinations of designs.

These litters are released with great frequency, and they can contain pets of any species. They're released to the main monthly adoptables page, under their own tab.

2008 2012 2016 2020
2009 2013 2017 2021
2010 2014 2018 2022
2011 2015 2019 2023

While it is ultimately left to the artists to decide which pairings should created, users are invited to give their input on a forum thread pinned to the top of the CS Help board.

Fortunately 2nd Gen pets are tagged visibly with a stamp that appropriately says "2nd Gen" on it, usually around the site's mark, so it is easy to identify which pets are descendants. This is a trait visible on all stages, even the growing ones.
